Martha’s Vineyard Bike Tour 4: President’s Path

President’s Path Bike Tour

June 21, 2022 @ 8:00 am August 31, 2022 @ 6:00 pm UTC+0

A ride from the busy outskirts of Vineyard Haven, through a sun-dappled, uncrowded and a quiet western section of the mid-island Manuel Correllus State Forest, to the roundabout, past the Alpaca Farm and the MV Family Campground and back into Vineyard Haven.

As you may know, several US Presidents chose the Vineyard as their vacation destination, and a few of them enjoyed riding bicycles with their families. This part of the State Forest bike path was often chosen for their rides, because it has no auto (or much of any other type of) traffic and the path is easily secured.

There are no bike paths from the starting parking lot in the outskirts of Vineyard Haven until the state forest entrance on Old County Road, and it is along busy roads. If you need bike paths for some of your peloton, park in the Old County Road lot (stop 4) or at one of the two parking lots on Barnes Road (stop 6) and ride an “Out and Back” route in the forest between the two lots, or try MV Bike Tours 6 or 7, which also go into the forest, but have more bike paths.

Distance: 9.6 miles

Elevation Gain: 164 ft
